South African food regulations require packaged food products to carry specific information. Here's what every compliant food label needs — and what we print for you.
The quantity per serving and number of servings per container. Regulators require this to be realistic and clearly stated — all nutrient values on the label are based on this amount.
Total energy per serving in kilojoules (kJ) and/or kilocalories (kcal). To find total product calories, multiply per-serving calories by number of servings. Some labels also show per 100g values.
Total fat per serving, broken down into saturated fat and trans fat. Saturated and trans fats must be listed separately as they are the types most associated with health risk and are regulated under South African food law.
Total carbohydrate (including dietary fibre and sugars), sodium, and protein — all per serving. Dietary fibre slows sugar absorption and keeps consumers satiated. All values are based on the declared serving size.
Micronutrients such as Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, and Potassium shown in milligrams (mg) or micrograms (mcg). Values are displayed per 1 serving and as a % of the recommended daily intake for an average adult on a 2 000 calorie diet.
Shows how much each nutrient in one serving contributes to a daily diet — based on a 2 000 calorie reference intake. Helps consumers quickly assess whether a product is high or low in a particular nutrient.
We print your nutritional info accurately. Bring your nutrition facts panel as a PDF, image, or text file and we'll typeset it directly onto your label — or include it in your supplied artwork. Not sure what you need? Ask us — we're happy to help.
